In submitting my last report, I discovered what happens when you
depress the <ESC> key while typing the details of a report - you get to
do it all over again :-(

Perhaps this is an unavoidable feature of the web-based tool - however,
if not, its elimination it would be a welcomed enhancement :-)

I think this is a browser "feature"; I just tested it with firefox, and I
 need to press ESC twice to remove the text from any of the text entries;
for the text area (below the subject, where you write your report) I
can't remove the text no matter how many times I press ESC.

I also tested Internet Explorer, and indeed my text goes away the moment
I hit ESC -- both on the text entries and the text area.

We'll file this as an enhancement request to see if is possible to make
the browser ignore the ESC key.

Florian, I've assigned this to you to see if there is something we can do
to catch the <ESC> key. This seems to be a IE feature...

As far as I know, there is no way to handle that... There are no event handler
that seem to be associated with a textarea. This TN can be closed, I think,
with proper message to the customer

 See http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/forms/imagereset.html

In this page they mention this specific problem, and how to work around
it using Javascript. Would it be feasible for us to do this? Will this
 work with AWS?

I am pretty reluctant to modify the default behavior of the broswer,
particularly using javascript which may very well not be portable.
Moreover, firefox as an 'undo' capability which allows to restore damages caused
by <ESC> or whatever else. I don't know about IE.

My suggestion would be to tell the customer about 'undo' with firefox and close
this TN. How does that sound?

So does IE. Hitting Ctrl-Z after having accidentally cleared the field
restores the text.

I think this is indeed preferable to having javascript patches.

ESC is a feature to me, it would be wrong to disable it, and I would
think that almost anyone knows the undo, so I don't think it would
even be desirable to "fix" this.

 Randall,

my colleagues have pointed out that you can use the "Undo" feature (from
the Edit menu) to get your text back if you accidentally hit ESC in IE.
This also works in Firefox, so we are closing this ticket.

Thanks for pointing this out.

"Undo" being one of my most familiar friends :-), I am sure I tried it - but as I now confirmed - my IE does *not* show "Undo" from the Edit menu :-(

However, there is a context menu (the right-click mouse) in the text area which DOES have the "Undo" option - and it works :-)

Thanks,
